Hey there! While I am on vacation I asked fellow SweatPink ambassador Nikki to guest post—enjoy!
Staying Healthy on Vacation
Hi there!! My name is Nikki, and I blog at Life After Swimming. When Kate asked me to do a guest post for her, I jumped at the opportunity! I love her blog, and wanted to help her out!
Here’s a little about me: I am a graduate student in special education, retired college swimmer, recent coffee addict, Pittsburgh girl, music freak, and wannabe triathlete. Also, this summer I guess you could call me a little traveler! I’ve been to San Diego, Assateague Island, Bethany Beach, D.C., and of course home to Pittsburgh!
One thing that is hard when the summer comes around and my routine is thrown out of whack on an almost daily basis is staying (mostly) healthy and squeezing in workouts. Sometimes it means squeezing them into a busy day of work, and other times it means fitting a workout in while on vacation!
The hardest part about vacation workouts in not knowing your resources. That’s why I’ve compiled some great workouts that can be done anywhere – with no equipment needed! Now, I will admit that I didn’t create these workouts, but I’ve done them, and they’re tough!
Another thing is trying to stick to healthy eating. One thing I do to plan ahead while on vacation is to pack breakfasts, snacks, and quick things to grab when hungry. It’s ok to eat out, but best if you’re not eating out for every meal! Granola bars, fruit, and easy snacks can come in handy when you are hangry (hungry + angry) and will make it so you don’t have to resort to ice cream and chocolate binges three times a day!
There you go! Just a few tips so that vacation doesn’t have to completely ruin your healthy lifestyle. I know that I could do a little bit better with the workouts and eating while on vacation, but having easily accessible workouts can definitely help when the hotel or area you are staying in is less than accommodating for what you want to do! And of course, there’s always running as an option no matter where you go! It can even be fun to look into races in areas that you’ll be heading to – there are many opportunities to find ways to keep you motivated while you’re vacationing!
Thanks for reading! And thanks to Kate for having me post!
