Chocolate Orange Green Smoothie
I decided to get a bit more exciting than my usual blueberry or strawberr smoothie today and I created a chocolate orange green smoothie flavor to take my lunchtime blend to new heights! Â Still just as simple to make as the original green smoothie, but a more complex flavor.
Chocolate Orange Green Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 cup kale or spinach
1/2 cup almond milk
1 orange peeled
1 tablsespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon sweetener
1/2 scoop protein powder (chocolate if you have it!)
4-5 ice cubes
Directions:
Blend kale, milk, orange, cocoa, and sweetener until smooth. Add ice blend again. Sip slowly to avoid brain freeze!
This was actually the first green smoothie I made primarily with kale.  Nate picked it out at the grocery store, and it did add a subtly different flavor than spinach.  I rarely taste the spinach now, but it is more noticable the first few smoothies. If you’re new to green smoothies I suggest adding more fruit or berries for sweetness, and don’t be afraid to add a little sweetener to your smoothie as well. Over time (as you get used to the flavor) you can reduce the fruit to the regular amount and decrease or eliminate the sweetener.  Or you can embrace the “spoonful of sugar helps the medecine go down” philosophy and add your sweetener no matter what! 😀Â
Do you have a favorite flavor of green smoothie?
mmmm kale! Looks amazing!
Thanks!!
Mmmmmm that sounds delicious! I usually have vanilla protein powder with spinach, strawberries and banana shakes – I’ll have to try your recipe for some variety, thanks for sharing!
Yeah that is the more “classic” of ny recipes but its fun to mix it up!! Hope you like it!
Howdy! I’m at work browsing your blog from my new iphone!

You are so interesting! I do not think I’ve truly read through a single thing like this before.
So great to discover someone with a few genuine thoughts on this topic.
Seriously.. many thanks for starting this up.
