What is the best fitness advice you have ever received? The one thing that really stuck with you…changed you…empowered you…enlightened you.
I remember a few years ago when I was struggling with my weight—I would have weeks and days where I did things “right”. I’d avoid sweets, fried foods, and pop; I’d workout with a vengeance. Those days or weeks would be followed by “oh what the heck” weeks and days where I would just blow it. I’d eat burgers, onion rings, ice cream, sweets, processed crap—you name it. Part of me felt like I deserved it for my hard work—for the good days. Another part of me was pissed that I couldn’t eat like that all the time like some of my skinny friends. And then I got a piece of advice. From Nike.
I had to do it every. single. day.
I had to embrace the fact that I couldn’t eat a doughnut every week. I couldn’t have a big gooey burger every week. I couldn’t treat myself to a Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard every week. (Ah, if only!) I could maybe eat one of those things each week. Maybe. I had to workout more than a couple times a week. And I couldn’t phone it in. If I wanted a fit body I had to put in tough work 5 days a week. Activity had to become part of routine, yes, but also part of my essence. So I did it. Every damn day. What’s the best fitness advice you’ve ever received?
