Happy Friday the 13th!!! Oh my gosh. Scary! I’m not an unlucky number type of person, but I definitely did NOT want Layla born on the 13th of the month. Hopefully that is not super-weird! Today I sat down to write one of my usual Friday Loves post and instead this came out…sometimes you just need to chat, right? So I’m going with the title of “Morning Musings”, maybe this will become a biweekly feature.
Speaking of Layla, I just want to take a moment and publically sob because my baby is almost a year old. What. the. heck. It’s ridiculous how fast this year has flown and that she is now not as much of a baby as a toddler. Be still my heart. If I had to pick three words to describe her right now they would be sweet, strong-willed, and adventurous. It’s such an amazing blessing and challenge to be a mom. I love it and am floored by it every single day. So let’s just go ahead and say that motherhood is one thing I’m loving this week!
And this week I got to join the MOPS group at my church! I’m definitely excited! I think driving to MOPS in a minivan gives me legit mom street cred. (No, I didn’t get a minivan, I just swapped cars with my mom for a little while.) MOPS was fun! It was great to connect with other moms and just have that uninterrupt adult time to talk about life and being a wife and mom. If you are a mom, I’d definitely encourage you to find one or another mom’s group to connect with for fellowship and encouragement. Two thumbs up!
And Valentine’s Day who is excited about that?!? I’m a little excited; I still have to work on Nate’s present, and I got a couple sweet things for Layla too. Our plans are still loose at this point, (getting babysitters has been a struggle lately…why do our babysitters think they need to do silly things like get engaged, work a “real” job, or go to Africa?) but hey, if all else fails you know we are watching a guy approved chick flick and making a fancy dinner at home!Old date night photo circa 2013
Also, I have a little blog redesign up my sleeve to make this place prettier and more inviting! I kind of want you to think of this as your little living room where you can pull up a chair and be refreshed in your spirit, encouraged to keep running your race (as a woman, influencer, mom, wife) and inspired to make any healthy changes in your life. (We’re all works in progress, right?) I’m also excited to start posting some more family-oriented posts! I hope that’s okay. If not you can just leave.
Just kidding…please don’t leave.
Now that I’ve gone all weird and stalkerish, are you seeing 50 Shades of Grey this weekend? Or ever? It’s a hard pass for me, it’s definitely NOT my style of romance movie; but it’s intriguing (former psychology major) that everyone seems so enamored with it…like everyone in the world is talking about how much they hate it or how much they can’t wait to see it. People like to talk about sex, who knew?
I think an addiction to abuse (whether by a person, to a person, food, drug, exercise, the internet whatever) is part of our broken human nature and something, sadly, we ALL easily become entrapped by to various degrees. I know “there but for the grace of God go I” so I’m not here to judge, just to “notice” as they say in yoga practice.
Well that got deep! I guess there’s a lot going on in my head this morning! Thanks for listening to my ramblings and feel free to ramble YOUR heart out in the comments too. Thanks as always for reading I <3 you guys for real!
Moms, are you part of MOPS or another mom group? What do you like about it?
What are your Valentine’s plans? Do you celebrate with your special someone or kids or family or
a bottle of scotch something else?
50 Shades? Yay or nay?
