7 Fast and Better for You Snack Ideas
It is a snack-driven world. Did you know 1/3 of the calories millenials (of which I am a proud member!) eat are snacks?! I have always been a “snacker” and usually try to eat a snack every afternoon between 3-4 in the afternoon. This snack helps me tide of the “crazy hungries” and stay satisfied until dinner, which for us in normally after 6:30. If 1/3 of our calories are now coming from snacks, then it is incredibly important we eat snacks that are good for us! A handful of cheetos or saltine crackers are not going to help us get to our healthy living goals. Today I am sharing another round up of some of my favorite healthy snacks that are fast, easy, and satisfying.
1. Apple with nut butter
I feel like this is the healthy eating classic, but for good reason. If I feel “snacky”, but an apple and nut butter doesn’t sound good, then I know I am not really hungry. It’s a great litmus test for whether you need a snack or a glass of water or something to do or a healthy coping skill for all the feels.
2. Air Popped Popcorn
Popcorn is my classic evening snack for when I am feeling a little hungry after dinner. I like to air pop my popcorn in a pan on the stove or in a paper bag in the microwave. I add about a teaspoon of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and I have a large volume snack.
3. Cut veggies and hummus
I love pairing carrots, sliced bell peppers, and celery with hummus. My favorite flavors are garlic and roasted red pepper and I normally pick them up at Aldi! Yum! I try to keep cut up veggies in my fridge all ready to go, but I always buy baby carrots so those are at least always ready to be eaten!
4. Fruit + Nuts
Taking 8-12 almonds or walnuts as a quick snack is a great hunger crusher for me! Nuts are full of good for you fats and even a small amount is very filling. Add in a piece of fruit and you have a great, balance of good fats and healthy carbs. Right now I am eating a lot of strawberries and grapes, but citrus snacks were going strong for quite a while there.
5. Cheese Stick Rolled in a Slice of Deli Turkey
I mean you could eat these two things seperately, but where is the fun in that? I like to roll my cheese stick in a slice of deli turkey and then eat it. It packs a great punch of protein and is an incredibly fast, easy snack.
6. Cereal
Call me weird, but I love a small bowl of cereal for a snack. I normally halve the amount I would regularly eat for breakfast and I stick to healthy choices like oatmeal, Kashi GoLean, Mulitgrain Cheerios or Chex. I like to top with fruit and eat with almond milk.
7. Kozy Shack®, Simply Well® Pudding
What fun fact did you learn about Kozy Shack?
I love popcorn as a snack. I’ve never tried Kozy shack puddings though. Fruit is always a good idea also.
I really like to slice a dill pickle spear in half lengthwise, blot it dry and then roll it up in a slice of deli meat. That’s so yummy! And the advice about testing whether or not you are really hungry is so good. If you aren’t hungry for a few apple slices and nut butter, then maybe you aren’t really hungry. Good way to judge true hunger versus thirst or boredom.
My one fun fact about Kozy Shack pudding is that a container of either tapioca, rice or chocolate pudding has only 2 points on the Weight Watchers plan!! A great snack or dessert!
I am a big fan of almonds and pickles for snacking!!!!
Some of my favorite snack options too. Didn’t know they now had a healthier version of them-my hubs has always been a big fan.
