When the days get cold it’s time to cozy in and there is nothing cozier than a bowl of soup and warm bread to go with it. My mom often will make delicious soups and serve them with her homemade bread. Just thinking about it warms my heart and makes my mouth water. While I love making my own homemade soups and stews there are days when I need the convenience of a quick can of soup and there is rarely a day when I have the time or patience or have planned ahead to make a loaf of homemade bread. But I still love the combination of hot soup and warm, fresh from the oven homemade bread.

Also, I am not a “beer person” and I still love this bread. (By not a beer person I mean I don’t like beer at all–there are so many great breweries in southwest Michigan that I kind of wish I did!)  The beer taste is slight, if anything. Actually probably the hardest part of this recipe was picking out the beer since I am so beer illiterate! I ended up going with an Amber Ale from Bell’s Brewery (got to shop local!) and it suits the bread nicely.

progresso soup and beer bread

I paired the bread with one of my favorite Light Progresso® soups, Beef Pot Roast. This soup is very filling and I love the veggies in it! Such a quick and simple lunch for a busy day! I love that the lightness of the soup balances out the heaviness of the bread. My family added fresh mandarin oranges (my favorite fruit right now) to our plate as well.
