It’s been a while since I did a day in the life post so here we go! Welcome to the crazy adventure of a toddler and baby.
5:00 am I hear Barrett so I get up to feed him. He goes right back to sleep after eating.
8:30 am Nate’s alarm goes off for work and I get up. First thing on my mind is coffee and getting some “Jesus time”. I’ve been using a simple Bible writing calendar on the themes of patience and perseverance. It’s been great to meditate and write out full passages of Scripture.
9:00 am Nate brings Layla out of her room to me as he heads off to work. We cuddle on the couch for a little bit.
9:15 Barrett is up. Layla loves to help me “take care of her Barrett”. Barrett nurses and Layla plays with her toys.
9:45 We are finally getting breakfast! Layla and I both love Greek yogurt for breakfast. She gets hers with a side of peanut butter toast and I have mine with frozen berries and granola.
10:15 We clean up the kitchen dishes and play–real exciting stuff.
10:30 Barrett gets fussy so I wrap him up for his nap. He seems unhappy in the swing, my arms, etc. After 20 minutes of bouncing around and fussing I decide to just try laying him down. After 5 unhappy minutes he is asleep. Well, okay then.
11:00 I pop Layla in front of a Daniel Tiger episode and jump in the shower (I hope I’m not the only mom that does this!) I quickly get ready and clear off the island. (Why does the island always become the dumping ground?) I also drag out our new sprinkler hose because our lawn is sad and dead. And our neighbor’s yard is lush and beautiful.
11:45 Barrett is up again and ready to eat. After he’s done we get ready for lunch at camp. I force Barrett to take selfies with me. He’s wearing a 6 month romper today and it is killing me!
12:30 We eat lunch (taco bar!) at camp with Nate and our coworkers/friends. A little before 1:30 we head home. Our double stroller is loaded down!
1:30 Quickly put Layla down for her nap, Barrett is getting fussy and sleep too. First baby down-success! Then second baby down-double success!
2:00 I speed clean up the living room and vacuum. Now both the kitchen and the living room look decent. I high five myself. Next I check in on my blog post for the day and follow up with reporting all my sponsored links. I check and double check to make sure I have the right hashtags, tags, links and everything the sponsored wanted included in social media and the blog. I check in on FB, reply to comments, etc.
2:45 My mom calls and we chat for 30 minutes or so. We laugh about Layla’s picky eating and my own intense stubbornness and sassy attitude as a kid. She comes by it honestly. Nate comes home during this time for his midday break-his camp schedule is kind of odd, but he normally takes a break in the afternoon and works in the evening from 6-9:30ish.
3:15 Fluff pillows on the coach for a short nap. Literally while I’m doing this Barrett wakes up. Oh well. We settle in to watch House Hunters while I nurse. (I finished all of Gilmore Girls which was my “nursing show” up to this point! I can’t wait for the new season to come out! I watched Nashville when Layla was little, it’s just nice to have a treat when you are bored and nursing a lot. :))
3:45 Put Barrett on his play mat, get myself a bowl of mixed berries for a snack, and write out the first half of this blog post. Read a little of the news on Facebook and articles centering around police force and African Americans. I feel sad and mad and helpless.
4:20 Layla is up so I get her swimsuit on and we head out as a family to the splash pad where we play for about an hour. We are so lucky to live in this awesome environment!
5:30 Back home to feed Boobear (aka Barrett) and get changed for dinner. Tonight the theme of our dinner is Stars and Stripes so we don some semi-festive gear and go to dinner at our camp dining room.
7:00 Stars & Stripes carnival at camp! Every week our camp has a carnival with games, face painting, bounce houses, field games etc. Layla definitely looks forward to it each week! We stay till a little after 8:00…she wants to stay out later, but we need to get home for bed…minor tantrum ensues. 😛
8:15 I give Layla a quick shower and get her ready for bed and tuck her in. We always say prayers and sing songs together before bed. And she “needs” lots and lots of hugs before I leave.
8:30 I feed Barrett and try to get him settled in for the night while watching some more house-hunters.
9:30 Barrett sacks out on my chest and Nate gets home from work. I put Barrett in bed. I probably should go work out now, but honestly I’m physically and emotionally beat. I consider not finishing this post. But decide to suck it up and document my imperfect day. It is hard feeling like I have to choose between blogging, me-time, housework, and working out. I feel like I always drop the ball somewhere. I remind myself that this is just a season. And that I walked a lot today. 🙂
10:30 I start getting ready for bed and dream feed Barrett one last time. I end up in bed by 11 and say a quick prayer for a good night of sleep! (P.S Totally answered-baby boy slept till 8 am today!)
What was the highlight of your day yesterday?
