My family has a mild obsession with tacos. My husband, Nate has taught my kids to scream “TAAAAACOOOOOSSSS!!!” in celebration whenever we have them for dinner. We eat them every week on Tuesdays and the three young ones CHOW DOWN the tacos. I’m constantly amazed at how much they eat!! So actually, I guess you could say the taco obsession isn’t mild, it is stronger than ever.

It does seem like the whole world is a bit taco-obsessed right now! Which isn’t a bad thing! I mean, at what other time in history can you get a taco holder shaped like a dinosaur or a t-shirt that declares your love for tacos or motivational quotes inspired by tacos.

It's okay if you fall apart sometimes. Tacos fall apart and we still love them quote

2019. What a time to be alive, ya’ll.

I’m not mad about all the taco love going on because as a busy mama I love tacos too! I love tacos because they are quick and easy and there are so many ways to mix things up. I can eat gluten and dairy-free thanks to corn tortillas and vegan cheese, one kid can have “deconstructed tacos” and the others can fix their perfect taco just the way they like it too!

Easy + healthy dinners are always a win for me! This homemade taco seasoning recipe will make more dinner wins happen for your family too!

You can do regular tacos, taco salad, nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas–for me, the base is all the same, you just mix up the delivery method. (I’m sorry for every true Mexican food connoisseur out there who is throwing tortillas at me right now!)

Why should I make a homemade taco seasoning mix?

When I first got married I just bought the little seasoning packets at the grocery store for everything–tacos, chili, sloppy joes. But over time I learned that I didn’t need those little packets with their long list of ingredients and almost always excessive sodium. I could do it myself! (And yes, my chili and sloppy joe recipe are on the blog!) Homemade taco seasoning seemed a little trickier and took a bit more of experimentation to get just right.

Finally, I nailed down my taco seasoning recipe! It is just spicy enough, not too much garlic and it will make your taste buds dance!Homemade taco seasoning

You can feel free to tweak this a little too! For more heat, up the red pepper flakes or chili powder; if you want it milder leave off the red pepper flakes. If you love garlic, pile a little extra on or add it fresh while you’re cooking! You can do the same thing with cilantro–the more the merrier (in my opinion) and fresh is best!

(Unless you are one of the people in the world who thinks cilantro tastes like soap–apparently it is genetic! Who knew?!?)

What’s is taco seasoning made out of?

This taco seasoning is an amazing blend of spices that you probably already have in your spice cupboard or pantry! I store mine in a small jar with an airtight lid.

How much taco seasoning mix do you need for 1 pound of ground beef?

I use two tablespoons per pound of meat. But if you like things spicier you can easily add a bit more!

I like that this recipe makes a LOT of the mix too! Because we eat tacos (or taco-like things) a LOT. This is also great to add in other Mexican dishes for a little bit of extra flavor!

I normally make tacos on Tuesday and a double batch so we can eat the leftover taco beef throughout the week. Everyone is always on board for tacos again or I often throw together a quick quesadilla for Nate and Layla and a taco salad for me as a weekday lunch.

Super simple, filling, and tasty — this homemade taco seasoning recipe is amazing and so easy to make!! Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
